| Sallie Mae job loss |
|

If you've read the newspaper lately, you know there's been a lot of talk about Sallie Mae losing jobs with the upcoming Student Loan reform.
Sallie Mae has a contract with the government to service their federal loans for the next five years. At that point, the government could choose to renew that contract or work the loans themselves.
Personally, I feel that Sallie Mae should be closed down, the government should then buy the buildings and hire the employees back to work the loans, but be retrained. Face it, most Sallie Mae employees, collectors or Customer service alike, are poorly trained and have bad attitudes when it comes to dealing with customers.

| An Economic Case Against Homosexuality- Response |

mood: annoyed

I have to say, when I read earlier in the week about a Purdue University professor blogging about how homosexuality is wrong and should effectively be outlawed, I wasn't surprised in the least. I also predicted that his argument would somehow incorporate false information from the bible, even though it claimed to be about an economic argument. Upon reading the blog entry, I was proven right.
What most people don't know is that the bible was translated several times from language to language and the meanings and verses have been changed to fit that language or new system of beliefs by the people that translated it. A lot of these translations reference homosexuality as a sin, but in the original (or as close as we can get to it) it actually refers to male prostitutes that sell themselves to other men for money.
A few of the people replying, thankfully, pointed out that AIDS is a primarily heterosexual disease. The disease started in Africa and spread as Africans believed that having sex with a virgin would cure you.
Saying that spending money on AIDS/HIV research is a waste of money is just ridiculous. If anyone had been paying any attention to recent news, there have actually been some breakthroughs in Asian testing facilities where a vaccine has been tested and proven to prevent or even cure AIDS in about 10% (if I remember correctly) of volunteers participating in the study. Obviously funding research for a cure of AIDS has not been a waste of time as we are closer to a cure for it than we are for other diseases cited by the Purdue professor.
Voicing your opinion and using your right to free speech is something that we as Americans have always thought was right and have fought for such rights. While the "Conservative Librarian" was free to voice his opinion, I'm disappointed that such a supposedly intelligent man would base such a large statement on a piece of religious "nonfiction" rather than concrete facts. If he feels so strongly in this regard, I find it hard to believe that he isn't using this as a bias against students or other faculty (which, according to the article sounds like he does) causing a harassing environment for them with his high level of irrational prejudice. In this day and age, you would think we would be more tolerant, but the U.S. is falling behind other more conservative countries in the acceptance of homosexuals and even gay marriage. Its time to step up, put the prejudice aside, and welcome ourselves to the future, where everyone is created equal as we were always intended to be but never have been.

The Everything Test There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all. Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-) | Personality | You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about self than concerned about others, more atheist than religious, more dependent than loner, more workaholic than lazy, more traditional than rebel, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more follower than leader, and more introverted than extroverted.
As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), romantic (100%), greedy (64%). | | | Stereotypes | | Hippie | 78% | | Punk Rock | 73% | | Young Professional | 65% | | | | Life Experience | | Sex | 25% | | Substances | 11% | | Travel | 33% | | Politics Your political views would best be described as Liberal, whom you agree with around 77% of the time. | | Socioeconomic Your attitude toward life best associates you with Lower Middle Class. You make more than 0% of those who have taken this test, and 91% less than the U.S. average. | If your life was a movie, it would be rated PG. By the way, your hottness rank is 29%, hotter than 40% of other test takers. | TAKE THE TEST brought to you by thatsurveysite |

Nothing's really happening. I find out at the end of this week or sometime next week whether or not I get the RA position.
Rawr. Thinking about it makes me mad, because I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get it and it pisses me off that some people can get a position like that without even interviewing or telling people that they're interested in the position. I really hate Ball State for that.
Anyway, I had my first(only?) midterm yesterday. I dunno how I did, probably bad. I didn't study and I've been to the class like, three times.
I'm trying to do well in all of my classes. The midterm was for my Computer Science class. I'm doing very well in the Lab, but not as well in the Lecture(which is what the midterm was in).
Anyway, in my Food Prep class this week, we're making cake. Woohoo. Like...Three or four different kinds of cake. Layered Buttercream cake, Angel Food cake, and a Jelly roll(which has nothing to do with jelly...).
So...Been getting on Second Life a lot more lately(secondlife.com). My avi looks really good and I have a sword and some guns(that do a fair amount of damage). I urge everyone to get on SL!!! I really like it. It's like a cross between the Sims and an mmorpg. |

I was sorted as a Huffledor at hybrid_sorting
This means I'm a combination of Hufflepuff and Gryffindor.
"You may belong in Huffledor, Where dwell the brave of heart, Their justice, truth, and loyalty Set Huffledor apart."
"Huffledor: These people are the kind that everyone wants as friends. These people are the kind that once they have made a friend, they will defend them to the end and never leave their side. These people are extremely patient and are also very considerate of their friends and others. They’re daring and they don’t have a problem with getting in trouble if it’s helping someone. These people you can depend on for advice and their help." |

Just thought everyone should know, I'm applying for a spot in a Harry Potter roleplaying group here on lj. It's called hybrid_elite. You submit an application there and are then sorted into your house, or none at all.
Going by your application, they decide where to place you. You can be a squib, or their six different combination of the original Hogwarts houses such as Ravenpuff or Gryffinclaw.
It sounds like a really awesome idea and if any of you are interested in rping or HP, I suggest you go take a look, if not join.
This site is just where you apply. Once sorted you will have to join with the house you are placed in and that respective lj community will be where the actual rping takes place. |

so, trying to figure stuff out. not sure what's going on right now.
Juju!!!!!! When are you moving in?
and kris will be leaving on monday to go home and await the great "london expedition." darryl is coming on saturday. and joe has promised to take me on another date within the next few weeks.
monday i'm supposed to meet with mr. andersen to find out whether or not there's room in his art class for me. if not, i'll have to sign up for mr. gee's class (if there's still room) or i'm screwed.
hopefully everyone had a good christmas and new years.
my new year's, stroke of midnight, was spent unkissed. *sigh* kris, april, eric, and i all went to a party joe was throwing over at his house in a suburb of chicago. it had it's ups and downs.
on another note, i just bought some movies off of ebay. gto the movie: liveaction, kiki's delivery service, and some obscure hayao miyazaki movie. i also went ahead and bought all of vandread(because i can never find it on bittorrent or anything). so, i spent like, 40 or 50 bucks on ebay today.
good news, everyone. financial aid checks should be in my account tomorrow or saturday. yay! now i can spend the whole thousand dollars on art supplies that i won't use all of, if i get into that damn art class.
also, looking to get another job. right now, here is what my schedule looks like for the spring:
MWF Work 9-11 a.m.
Food Prep 12-1:50 Intro to Graphic Art 2-2:50
TR Work 9-11 a.m.
Japanese Culture 12:30-1:45 Intro to Women's Studies 2-3:15
and that's it. so, i have a lot of time left over in the evening/night where i can work. i just need to find a job. |

You are The Lovers
Motive, power, and action, arising from Inspiration and Impulse.
The Lovers represents intuition and inspiration. Very often a choice needs to be made.
Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that's actually more apt than "Lovers." Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can't understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. This card indicates that the you have or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that you will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from your chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it you will never be complete.
What Tarot Card are You? Take the Test to Find Out. |
